Bed-to-Bed Air Ambulance

When a patient cannot travel safely by commercial flight due to clinical risk, Air Medical Transport provides fixed-wing air ambulance solutions through complete bed-to-bed fixed-wing air ambulance transport management. We support fixed-wing air ambulance transports within the United States, from and to the United States, and worldwide between international locations through our global alliance network.

As a Transportation Management Organization (TMO), our Flight Coordinator Specialists manage, direct, oversee, and coordinate every mission using disciplined planning, continuous mission monitoring, and closed-loop communication from first contact through arrival at the receiving facility. You do not need to coordinate multiple parties or manage logistics. Our team remains your single point of contact throughout the entire process. Clinical decisions always remain with the patient’s sending, receiving, and treating physicians. Our role is focused exclusively on fixed-wing air ambulance transport management and coordination. For more than two decades, we have managed complex fixed-wing air ambulance transports for patients, families, and hospitals worldwide—helping decision-makers move forward with confidence during critical moments.

U.S. Domestic Fixed-Wing Air Ambulance Transport

For U.S. domestic missions, airport planning follows aircraft performance, patient requirements, routing, weather considerations, and applicable safety criteria, utilizing the closest appropriate public airports to support safe and efficient fixed-wing air ambulance transport. Airport planning is assessed individually for each mission to support patient safety, operational efficiency, and continuity of care.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT AIR AMBULANCE

What is a fixed-wing air ambulance?

A fixed-wing air ambulance is a medically configured airplane or jet equipped as a mobile ICU, used for long-distance domestic and international patient transfers that require continuous medical monitoring and professional clinical oversight.

What is a critical care fixed-wing air ambulance?

A critical care fixed-wing air ambulance is configured to support MICU-level monitoring throughout transport for higher-acuity patients who cannot travel safely by other means.

How fast can a fixed-wing air ambulance mission be arranged?

Every situation is evaluated individually, with patient safety as the priority. Depending on availability and complexity, some missions may be arranged within hours. Timelines depend on clinical readiness, facility alignment, routing, weather, regulatory requirements, and aircraft and crew availability. International missions may require additional planning for permits and logistics. Our Flight Coordinator Specialists communicate clearly at every stage.

How much does a private-pay fixed-wing air ambulance cost?

Pricing depends on transport distance, aircraft type, routing, airport access, and the patient’s clinical needs. Each mission is quoted individually.

Do you work with insurance?

All fixed-wing air ambulance missions are arranged as private-pay services and are paid in full at the time of booking. Clients may pursue insurance reimbursement independently after transport using the documentation we provide.

Does insurance cover fixed-wing air ambulance transport?

Insurance coverage varies by plan and carrier. In some cases, insurers may consider reimbursement after transport when a patient is transferred between medical facilities because the sending facility cannot provide the required level of care. Any reimbursement claim is strictly between the patient and their insurance carrier. We do not submit claims or negotiate coverage.

Most U.S. private health insurance plans do not cover fixed-wing air ambulance transport for patients located outside the United States unless the policy includes specific international or travel medical coverage.
